Muslim-friendly sister outlet of acclaimed DanLao serving Malay and Indonesian-inspired scrambled egg rice bowls with customizable egg styles and Southeast Asian proteins.
Kawan Bowl Anchorvale Village represents the innovative Muslim-friendly expansion of DanLao, the highly-acclaimed scrambled egg rice stall operated by ex-Eggslut chefs at Maxwell Food Centre. This sister concept transforms the popular Hong Kong-style egg rice bowl format into Malay and Indonesian-inspired flavors, opening at Anchorvale Village as part of their rapid expansion that includes five outlets within eight months across Singapore. Their strategic location within this modern hawker centre serves Sengkang diverse Muslim community while maintaining the culinary excellence that made the original DanLao famous among Singapore food enthusiasts.
The signature menu features Muslim-friendly scrambled egg rice bowls with authentic Southeast Asian proteins including ayam panggang at 6.90 dollars, Taliwang chicken cutlet at 6.90 dollars, and the highly sought-after ayam berempah at 6.90 dollars featuring a hefty whole chicken leg in flavorful spice rub that typically sells out before dinner service. Customers can customize their experience by choosing from three egg preparation styles: classic silken egg, telur dadar (omelette style), and crispy deep-fried egg, providing textural variety that elevates the dining experience beyond standard rice bowl offerings.
Kawan Bowl success demonstrates the founders strategic vision to expand their scrambled egg rice concept to broader audiences while respecting religious dietary requirements and cultural preferences. Their rapid growth from the original Maxwell Food Centre location to multiple heartland locations including Sunshine Place, Jurong Point, Tam Chiak Kopitiam Bidadari, and Pasir Ris Mall reflects strong market demand for quality halal comfort food. At Anchorvale Village, they contribute to the hawker centre reputation as a destination for innovative yet culturally authentic cuisine, bridging traditional Malay and Indonesian flavors with contemporary presentation that appeals to both heritage-conscious diners and adventurous food explorers.
Wanted to order ayam berempah but it was sold out at my visit on dinner time.
Ordered taliwang chicken cutlet instead, I asked if the chicken was not spicy for kid to eat, the staff said it wasn't spicy, however, it was spicy even without the chili on it. My kid didn't eat it after.
Preparation was quick. Only 2 minutes after ordered.

The scrambled egg is nothing to sing about. You barely notice it is there.
The chicken leg with rice is decent at $6.90. But the rest of the menu seems overpriced for the amount of food you get.

Was surprised to see the ingredients all pre-prepared and hanging out on a shelf.
The food was cold, wasn’t able to finish it, this is not worth 6.90.
Do yourself a favour and buy the hot food at any other stall here.

Dishonest. Cashier told all ayam rempah, prawn sambal etc on menu were finished. Just left deep fried chicken cutlet and luncheon. But after 30mins I noticed people ordering and having it! Next time pls advise there is a waiting time instead of simply telling sold out for today!
Review on food: scramble egg way too oily and sambal too sweet! The chicken cutlet taste like frozen kind bought from fair price esp the chicken texture is processed.

Food is ok but they are more interested in online orders than in person. Waited 15mins patiently from no queue to a queue of 5-6 behind me and at least 8 bowls of online orders served. Staff then proceeded to accept 2 more online orders in front of me, without even acknowledging my presence..
Called them out on it and got attitude saying it was busy and not enough staff. I don't mind waiting but if you don't even bother about the counter you're getting a 1 star review.

Being a big fan of Dan Lao, I was thrilled to find out that they had a spin-off that catered more to our region's tastes. That said, in theory it might have been a good idea but the execution needs a lot more fine tuning. The fluffy omelette of Dan Lao was alot denser here and made it a little jelak after just half way through. The chicken that was supposed to be ayam pangang with kecap manis felt rather underwhelming, would have preferred a bit more char on the meat. And the otah was also pretty forgettable.

Yummy and worth! Each bowl of chicken, egg, and rice, is so affordable and delicious. Their signature chicken is soooo fragrant. Each bite reminds me of malaysian makanan restorans. Pair it with their rice doused in savoury sauce and omg it's so homely and hearty.
The egg also omg so silky and tasty. So good to eat with the rice and chicken!
They have like 3 different types of chilli you can choose from! Some chilli is a bit too sweet but nonetheless really gokd to pair with.
Lovely lady serving us that day also. Would definitely eat here again!

$5.90 for a bowl of luncheon egg rice. Save $0.59 using the Fairprice app. I only pay $5.31.
It’s not cheap but you can eat this simple, tasty comfort food without having to cook at home.

The panggang chicken was tender and flavourful. The scrambled egg was soft and not watery.

Best scrambled egg rice ever

Ayam panggang is delicious, with flavorful chicken and nice scrambled egg. Note that chicken is more satay-like, and egg is runny. Would compare to Danlao, but feels a little less greasy. Overall delicious and good value for money

Ayam Panggang Egg Rice @ Kawan Bowl
If you love scrambled egg rice, this is a flavorful twist on your classic comfort food. The chicken is nice and tender, and the sauce is nutty and rich. The egg is also thick and has a smooth and loose texture. It gets this close to being gelat, but thankfully the portions was just before that point. Might wanna come hungry, but it’s great eating and definitely worth a try!

Yummy and worth it! Each bowl of chicken, egg, and rice is so affordable and delicious. Their signature chicken is soooo fragrant. Each bite reminds me of Malaysian food restaurants. Pair it with their rice, doused in savoury sauce, and oh my god, it's so homely and hearty.
