Third outlet of beloved Hakka specialist serving traditional lei cha (thunder tea rice) and yong tau foo, founded by ex-piano teacher with passion-driven authentic recipes.
Hakka Leipopo 客家擂婆婆 Anchorvale Village represents the third expansion location of ex-piano teacher Kumiko Tan entrepreneurial journey, bringing traditional Hakka thunder tea rice (lei cha) and yong tau foo to Sengkang newest hawker centre. Operating Tuesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 8 PM at stall 02-05, this establishment continues the heartwarming story of a former music educator who learned to cook lei cha for her husband love of the dish, eventually transforming her home-based operation into a successful hawker chain. Their presence at Anchorvale Village demonstrates how passion-driven food businesses can preserve cultural cuisine while adapting to modern consumer preferences.
The simplified menu focuses on two signature offerings: Hakka Lei Cha at 5 dollars and Hakka Yong Tau Foo at 7.20 dollars a la carte, with set combinations priced at 8.30 dollars for 3 pieces and 11.70 dollars for 7 pieces of yong tau foo paired with lei cha. The thunder tea rice features fresh vegetables including long beans, sayur manis, chye sim, cabbage, preserved radish, dried shrimps, firm tofu, and peanuts, accompanied by thick, earthy broth that resembles matcha but delivers complex umami flavors. Their yong tau foo utilizes fresh pork and mackerel fish paste filling enhanced with dried flounder powder, stuffed into bitter gourd, brinjal, tau kwa, beancurd skin, and tau pok.
Customer reviews consistently praise Hakka Leipopo as offering some of the best lei cha tea soup available, with food critics noting their offerings belong in the upper echelons of Singapore Hakka cuisine scene. The business success across three locations including One Punggol and Bukit Merah View demonstrates strong market demand for authentic Hakka comfort food presented with contemporary service standards. At Anchorvale Village, they contribute to the hawker centre diverse cultural food landscape while serving both Hakka heritage preservation and introducing new generations to traditional thunder tea rice culture through accessible pricing and convenient location within this modern community dining hub.
Another leicha place off my bucket list! The leicha paste (or soup) is pretty good, it gives a unique creamy and smooth texture. However, the ingredients are a tad oily and salty for me, perhaps due to the cai po and little shrimps. I wish they asked if I wanted the little shrimps to be added because I usually go without it and it affected the taste of the leicha. I opted for no rice which comes at extra 50 cents, perhaps more ingredients were given? I couldn’t really tell the difference.

Specifically told her Top and Btm row, but she picked the eggplant from middle row, then hide it with big tofu piece, then don’t allow to exchange. The peanut tastes rancid today too.

food quality is above average , price higher than the other stall i patronise - thunder tea rice(which does brown rice upgrade foc and quantity is more). This stall also stinges on the green tea especially when u bring yr own containers to take away, the cashier especially will stinge u and gives u a one kind look when u ask for a bag to take home. The attitude is that if u don't pay 30cts for the take away container, then u shd not be asking for a plastic bag for your take away containers.. penny wise pound foolish in my view

Please note that there are no vegetarian options available. I love the Lei Cha here and is a regular. However today’s service was disappointing. Today is first day of the lunar month and I am on half day vegetarian meals. I asked the staff if the thunder rice ala carte is vegetarian and she said yes. However I discovered there are dried shrimps inside and I went to change for a non-shrimp one. But was told by another staff that all the vegetables are fried with dried shrimps. Was disappointed that the staff did not know their products well and did not apologise for the mistake in communications. I took it in the end so as not to waste food. Will make up for vegetarian meal tonight.
Still love the lei cha here and will continue to patronise them

Food quality is above average, but prices are higher than another stall I patronize, Thunder Tea Rice (which offers a brown rice upgrade FOC and more generous portions). This stall also skimps on the green tea, especially when you bring your own containers for takeaway; the cashier, in particular, will be stingy and give you a look when you ask for a bag to take your items home. Their attitude seems to be that if you don't pay 30 cents for the takeaway container, then you shouldn't be asking for a plastic bag to carry your items. This is penny wise, pound foolish, in my view.

Specifically told her the top and bottom row, but she picked the eggplant from the middle row, then hid it with a big tofu piece, then didn't allow an exchange. The peanuts taste rancid today too.

Think this is the best Thunder tea rice that I have tried. Ordered Set A (comes with 3 fried yong tau foo pieces) and brown rice.
The soup is pleasant with a light savoury taste (Usually the ones I have tried elsewhere taste unappetising on its own). Complements the rice well.
The chilli is on the sour side and appetising, yums!
For the YTF pieces, I especially like the thin beancurd skin and the eggplant.
Delicious meal. Will be back for more!

Thunder Tea Rice comprises a bowl of green tea soup with a variety of toppings such as peanuts, sesame seeds, pickled radish, tofu, and finely-chopped veg (kailan, long beans, cabbage). You can add Yong Tau Foo ingredients too (e.g. eggplant, bittergourd, tau kwa, tau kee.), or order YTF by itself.
From $5
Set A ($8.30) is lei cha + 3 pc of YTF.
Set B ($11.70) is lei cha + 7 pc of YTF.
Parking - There is a MSCP right inside Anchorvale Village.
Kids playground is located on Level 4 and can be reached via stairs from level 3.

The food is of good generous portions for the lei cha and yong tau foo, it’s not salty and taste nice and goes very well with their chilli.
I personally like their yong tau foo size and is well stuff with pork minced meat.

Best Leicha and Hakka niang tofu at reasonable price. Highly recommend for all. Bought home for dinner and made a gravy with abalone sauce n garlic to try it wet. Taste delicious too as it takes away some oil during deep frying. Good to offer this options to customers as you will win a wider customers base. Keep it up.

The $7.20, 7-piece Hakka YTF has Ah Mah's touch! The portion is generous, just like Ah Mah would serve. The taste is authentic. If they served it with 粗米粉, it would be heavenly!
